The sixth race of the 2023 Michelin Le Mans Cup will take place on the magnificent Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, with 41 cars run by 26 teams and 82 drivers from all around the world lining up on Saturday 23 September.
There are 29 LMP3 entries and Spa-Francorchamps could be the venue where the title driver and team titles are decided.
The no16 Team Virage Ligier-Nissan of Gillian Henrion and Julien Gerbi is currently on 72 points, 21 points ahead of the nearest rival after two wins in Barcelona and Le Castellet and a second-place finish last time out in Aragón.
The no77 Team Thor Ligier of Audunn Gudmundsson and Colin Noble have taken three podium finishes from the five races held so far this season and are on 51 points in second place in the championship standings. They know nothing less than another podium finish in Belgium will keep their championship hopes alive.
After securing their second win of the season in Aragón, John Melsom and Matt Bell will be looking to add a third at Spa-Francorchamps, with the no4 Nielsen Racing Duqueine on 45 points, 27 points behind the Team Virage Ligier with a maximum of 52 points still on offer in the final two races of the season. COOL Racing’s Adrien Chila and Cedric Oltramare are 4 points behind the Nielsen Racing pairing on 41 points.
Road to Le Mans race winners Luis Sanjuan and David Droux are in 6th overall on 32 points in the no97 COOL Racing Ligier, just one point behind the fifth placed pairing of Fabien Michal and Kirill Smal in the no2 CD Sport Ligier.
Belgium’s Brent Verheyen will be hoping to get some points on the board at his home race, the 21-year-old from Dilsen will return to the grid with Swiss teammate Pieder Decurtins in the no67 Haegeli by T2 Racing Duqueine after missing the race in Aragón last month.
While the LMP3 title could be won in Belgium, the GT3 championship is wide open with just 10 points splitting the top three cars and six drivers.
Round 1 winners Arnold Robin and Valentin Hasse Clot have also finished on the podium in three of the last four races and are on 69 points in the no10 Racing Spirit of Léman Aston Martin Vantage.
The French duo face stiff opposition in Belgium from their nearest rivals, with the chasing pack led by the no86 HCR with CaffeineSix Porsche 911 GT3 R of Tim Creswick and Anders Fjordbach. The British-Danish pairing took maximum points in the two Road to Le Mans races back in June and finished second last time out in Aragón.
Aragón race winners Koizumi Hiroshi and Kei Cozzolino stormed up the table to third place after securing the 25-points for the win in Spain and the Japanese teammates are on 59 points in the no51 AF Corse Ferrari 296 GT3.
Le Castellet race winners Gabriel Rindone and Patrick Kujala are currently lying in 4th overall on 42 points and with a maximum of 52 points still available from the final two races of the 2023 season, the no19 Leipert Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 is still in the hunt for championship glory.
