Belgian racer Eric De Doncker will once again take to his home track in the no98 Motorsport98 Ligier-Nissan for round 2 of the 2020 Michelin Le Mans Cup alongside his French teammate Dino Lunardi.
We spoke to Eric ahead of the next round of the series on the awesome 7km Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
Q: As a Belgian driver, what is it like racing at Spa?
“It is always special to race at Spa; it is a fantastic and challenging track.
Normally we race in front of our home fans, we have friends and family coming to watch, unfortunately, this year due to Covid-19 pandemic it will be at "huis clos”, but it will be always Spa atmosphere, and this is great.”
Q: What is your favourite part of the track?
“Everybody would say the Raidillon/Eau Rouge, but I love the double gauche du Pouhon, quick blind entry with full acceleration through the exit, challenging.”
Q: The LMP3 class is ultra-competitive but you started the season well with a second-place finish at Le Castellet. What are your expectations for the race at Spa?
“Every year the level of teams and drivers increases, MLMC is a very competitive and professional championship. I must say that I am very proud of the work of the whole team through the seasons and at Paul Ricard.
“For sure the second place at Le Castellet is a boost, but we will work as usual, work on set up and try to go as fast as possible without doing any mistakes. But I will keep my expectations in my head ... I am very superstitious!”
