The no85 R-ace GP Duqueine-Nissan set the fastest time in Free Practice 1, the first of two sessions on the opening day of the penultimate race weekend of the 2024 season. The session was interrupted by two Red Flags and one Full Course Yellow, the final Red Flag bringing the session to a close a couple of minutes early.
The Hadrien David in the no85 Duqueine set a 1m43.111 lap time around the 5.245km Grand Prix circuit at Mugello, the championship contender four tenths of a second ahead of the no66 Rinaldi Racing Ligier of Wyatt Brichacek, with the Spa-Francorchamps race winning no62 Bretton Racing Ligier, with Theodor Jensen at the wheel, in third with a 1m43.724 lap.
Championship leaders COOL Racing were sixth fastest at the end of the 60-minute practice session, with David Droux posting a 1m44.236 lap, 1.125 seconds behind the fastest car.
Alesandro Balzan got the weekend off to a great start for the championship leading no51 AF Corse Ferrari with a 1m46.864 lap, 0.175s ahead of championship rivals Kessel Racing, with the no74 Ferrari 296 GT3 of Fran Rueda Mateos lapping in 1m47.039.
The no18 High Class Racing Porsche, driven by Sven Muller, was just 0.006s behind the Kessel Racing Ferrari in third place at the end of the session.
The no88 AF Corse Ferrari, which is currently second in the GT3 standings, went off track early in the session, causing the first red flag so that the marshals could recover the car.
The second Free Practice session will take place later today at 17h45.
