Freddie Hunt took his second pole position of the 2022 Michelin Le Mans Cup after a thrilling session in damp conditions at Spa-Francorchamps. The British driver posted a 2m14.883 lap in the no76 Reiter Engineering Ligier, which was just 0.027s ahead of the no11 WTM Racing Ligier of Germany’s Torsten Kratz.
The LMP3 session was red flagged after just three minutes when the no4 Nielsen Racing Ligier of John Melsom stopped on track and had to be lifted away before the session could resume.
Freddie Hunt posted the first time but then lost out to the no43 Racing Spirit of Leman Ligier of Jacques Wolff and then Torsten Kratz went even quicker.Hunt responded on the next lap, going 2nd and then into provisional pole. However, Kratz wasn’t done, and he posted a 2m14.910 with two minutes left on the clock.
Freddie Hunt then posted a 2m14.883 to go back into pole position, with Torsten Kratz unable to beat that time as the chequered flag was shown to end the session.
The GT3 session saw the no44 GMB Motorsport Honda NSX of Jens Moller secure pole position for the third time this season, the Dane posting 2m22.088 lap to finish 1.691s ahead of his GMB teammate Kristian Poulsen in the no55 Honda.
The two Danes were battling it out for pole at Spa but it was Moller who was able to respond to any improvement made by the other drivers and he never lost the top spot throughout the 15-minute session.
The no99 Bullitt Racing Aston Martin was third fastest, with Stephen Pattrick finishing ahead of the no88 GMB Motorsport Honda and the no61 AF Corse Ferrari.
The 110-minute race at Spa-Francorchamps will take place later today, with the race due to get underway at 16h05.
