The no25 Lanan Racing Norma of Duncan Tappy and Michael Benham finished the second Free Practice session at the top of the time sheets with Tappy posting a best lap of 1m42.063 just before the track was declared wet by the Race Director.
The time was 0.284s faster than the no43 Keo racing Ligier of Johan Jokinen and 0.5 seconds ahead of the no32 United Autosports Ligier of Colin Braun.
The session was red flagged when the no20 DB Autosport Norma of Nicolas Maulini went off the track at turn one, hitting the tyre wall barrier hard. The Swiss driver, who was conscious and complaining of pain in his right ankle, was taken to circuit medical centre and then to the local hospital in Portimão for further checks. His condition is not serious.
The session was not restarted to allow the circuit staff time to repair the damaged barrier ahead of this afternoon’s qualifying and support races.
Kessel Racing once again topped the GT3 time sheets with the no8 Ferrari once again leading the way. Sergio Pianezzola posted the best time for the no8 car with a 1m45.026, nearly one second ahead of the no77 Kessel Racing Ferrari of Andrea Piccini.
Qualifying for the final race of the 2018 season will take place this afternoon, Saturday 27 October, at 15h30.
