The two 15-minute qualifying sessions for the opening round of the 2022 Michelin Le Mans Cup took place this afternoon, with two new teams claiming pole positions.
The GT3 field saw a dominant showing by Danish outfit GMB Motorsport, with the no44 Honda NSX of Jens Moller and the no55 Honda of Kristian Poulsen battling it out for the top spot.Moller went to the head of the timing screens at the halfway point of the session, with Poulsen challenging his teammate on several occasions but unable to close the gap.
Moller finished on a 1m56.314 lap, 0.4 seconds ahead of Poulsen, with Emanuele Busnelli putting the no46 Ebimotors Porsche in third spot ahead of the third GMB Motorsport Honda NSX of Lars Pedersen.
The 31 car LMP3 field took to the track for their session, and it was a straight battle for pole between the no 11 WTM Racing Duqueine of Torsten Kratz and the no29 MV2S Forestier Racing Ligier of Jerome de Sadeleer.
The two cars swapped places at the head of the timing screens, with Kratz putting in a final lap of 1m50.508 to claim his debut pole position by just 0.152s in front of De Sadeleer’s Ligier.
The second row for this afternoon’s race will be headed by the no10 Racing Spirit of Leman Ligier, with Alexander Mattschull finishing the session on a 1m51.123s lap, just 0.171s ahead of the no17 IDEC Sport Ligier of Charles Crews.
Round 1 of the 2022 Michelin Le Mans Cup is due to start at 16h40, with the chequered flag due to shown 1 hour and 50 minutes later.
