The 2022 Michelin Le Mans Cup resumes after a two month break since the last race in Monza with the penultimate race of the season at the 7km Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium. 37 cars will take to the grid for the sixth race of the year and with 52 points still to be won, all four titles are still to be decided.
The grid will feature 74 drivers and 26 teams from 18 different nations.
LMP3
Thirty-two LMP3 cars will be on the grid in Spa-Francorchamps with championship leaders Tom Dillman and Alexander Mattschull in the no10 Racing Spirit of Leman Ligier-Nissan on the cusp of securing the driver and team titles in Belgium.
The Franco-German pairing are currently on 74 points after wins in Monza, Le Castellet and in the first Road to Le Mans race, giving them a comfortable 33 points advantage over their nearest rivals Louis Rousset and Jerome de Sadeleer in the no29 MV2S Forestier Racing Ligier on 41 points.
Round 2 winners Maurice Smith and Malthe Jakobsen are currently in third place in the standings with 31 points in the no69 Cool Racing Ligier, with the no11 WTM Racing Ligier of Torsten Kratz and Leonard Weiss also on 31 points in 4th.
The no76 Reiter Engineering Ligier of Freddie Hunt and Mads Siljehaug is currently in 5th overall, with the Anglo-Norwegian pairing scoring a podium finish at Le Mans and Hunt securing his debut pole position at Monza.
Reigning champions Colin Noble and Tony Wells are on 25 points in 6th and will be looking for their second podium finish of the season in Belgium in the no7 Nielsen Racing Ligier.
GT3
With just five cars on the grid in Belgium the GT3 grid might be small but all the leading contenders for the 2022 titles will be taking the start in Belgium. With just 20 points splitting the top three, there is all to play for at Spa.
The no55 GMB Motorsport Honda NSX of Kristian Poulsen and Kasper Jensen will be looking to extend their lead by adding a win at Spa to the ones they have already secured at Le Castellet and Le Mans.
The Danish crew are currently on 77 points, 17 ahead of the no99 Bullitt Racing Aston Martin Vantage of Britain’s Stephen Pattrick and French driver Valentin Hasse-Clot, who secured their third podium finish in five races at Monza last time out.
The no88 GMB Motorsport Honda NSX of Lars Engelbreckt Pedersen is currently in third place on 57 points.The Danish team will unleash a secret weapon, with former 24 Hours of Le Mans and multiple IMSA / ALMS Champion Jan Magnussen replacing Mikkel Pedersen in Belgium.
The grid will be completed by the no44 GMB Motorsport Honda of Round 2 winners Gustav Birch and Jen Moller and the no61 AF Corse Ferrari 488 of Gino Forgione and Andrea Montermini.
Race 6 of the Michelin Le Mans Cup will take place at Spa-Francorchamps on Saturday 24 September.
