Here are some drivers’ reactions after the Monza round, fifth round of the 2020 Michelin Le Mans Cup season.
Ollie Millroy – n°70 Optimum Motorsport McLaren 720s GT3: “We have had a good weekend with lots of track time which is always a positive. Brendan drove amazingly well today in his race stint, taking the fight to the other bronze racers, some of them are very experienced, so it was a good experience for him. There was of course the three safety cars and restarts, so all positive. We could have finished higher up with a bit of a break on the balance of performance, but on the positive, the team did an amazing job and the car felt incredible.”
Rob Hodes – n°10 Nielsen Racing Duqueine D08 : “It’s our best result of the year and I enjoyed my race, made a good start and picked up a few spots and was able to hold a good position in the transition to Garett and he drove his heart out – really fighting for that podium position – and I know he gave it all he had as always. It’s always challenging being in the aero wash behind another car, but he could have picked up the pace with clear air, so that is always a challenge. A good race overall."
Maurice Smith, n°69 Cool Racing Ligier JS P320: “It’s been a good weekend, it’s great to be racing at Monza. I had a good start and was able to hand the car off to Matt in a good position which he was able to build on. We were catching the car in second and with less than 10 minutes to go the car wouldn’t start in the pits, it was a mechanical issue we couldn’t overcome. That’s how racing goes, but there’s always next time.”
Nicolas Mélin, n°11 Racing Experience Duqueine D08: “It’s disappointing to go from a very strong position to the back of the field in a race like this. We had great pace today and we were on course for a great result. When I went for the overtake on the outside into turn one, I didn’t have enough space and my wheels touched the grass, causing me to spin.”
