Duncan Tappy and Michael Benham topped the time sheets in the first Free Practice session for the final Michelin Le Mans Cup race of the 2018 season in Portugal. Tappy put the all British team at top of classifications with a 1m40.443 lap of the 4.6km Portimao track, 1.1 seconds ahead of his nearest rival, Johan Jokinen in the no43 Keo Racing Ligier.
Newly crowned champions, Jen Petersen and Leonard Hoogenboom, were third fastest in the no3 DKR Engineering Norma, with Hoogenboom posting a 1m41.650 before rain fell onto the circuit towards the end of the session, curtailing any further improvements in the lap times.
2018 GT3 champions Giacomo Piccini and Sergio Pianezzola got their weekend off to a great start in the no8 Kessel Racing Ferrari, Piccini posting a 1m44.780 lap, just 0.055s ahead of his brother Andrea in the no77 Kessel Racing run F488.
