QUALIFYING 1: Grid for RTLM Race 1 To Be Set by FP1 Times

After three red flags and with no competitor able to set a time during the Qualifying session for Road To Le Mans Race 1, the Stewards have issued a bulletin, which states that the best time set in Free Practice 1 will determine the grid position for each competitor.

The 20-minute qualifying session was red flagged for the first time when the no84 ANS Motorsport Ligier of Paul Trojani went off at the Porsche Curves with 14 minutes and 39 seconds left on the clock. Trojani was OK but the car had to be recovered to a safe location before the session could resume.

The second red flag occurred at 9 minutes and 38 seconds when the no58 GG Classics Ligier stopped next to the track at Indianapolis in a dangerous position. The session went green again but before any competitor could record a time, the no33 Kessel Racing Ferrari of David Fumanelli pulled off the track at marshal post 23 between Mulsanne and Indianapolis with flames coming from the car. Fumanelli jumped out of the car and the flames were extinguished but with just 4 minutes and 33 seconds left, the session was not restarted.

The fastest cars in FP1 were the no85 R-ace GP Duqueine in LMP3, the no84 ANS Motorsport Ligier in LMP3 Pro/Am and the no51 AF Corse Ferrari in GT3.

However, the no84 Ligier will start at the back of the LMP3 Pro/Am grid due to the fact it caused one of the red flags. The second fastest LMP3 Pro/Am car in FP1 was the no71 Rinaldi Racing Ligier-Toyota and this car will head the class grid in this evening's 60-minute race, which is due to begin at 18h25.
