FP1: Team Virage Set Early Place in Portugal

The no12 Team Virage Ligier was the fastest car in the opening free practice session of the final weekend of the 2020 Michelin Le Mans Cup with Alessandro Ghiretti posting a 1m35.680 lap at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve.

Ghiretti’s time was 0.680s ahead of the second fastest car, the no69 Cool Racing Ligier of Round 3 winners Matt Bell and Maurice Smith.The no55 Rinaldi Racing Duqueine was third fastest, with Nicolas Varrone’s 1m36.438 lap just 0.078s behind Bell. Championship contenders Edouard Cauhaupe and Nicolas Maulini were fourth fastest in the no37 Cool Racing Ligier with Cauhaupe’s setting the best time of 1m36.528.

The championship leading no3 DKR Engineering Duqueine was 14th fastest, with Wolfgang Triller replacing Jean Glorieux for the final race, the Belgian driver unable to attend the event in Portugal. Laurents Hörr needs just one point to be declared 2020 drivers champion and for DKR Engineering to claim their fourth team title in a row.

The no8 Iron Lynx Ferrari of Rino Mastronardi and Giacomo Piccini was the fastest of the four GT3 cars entered in Portugal.Piccini posted a 1m40.417 lap, which put the newly crowned championship winning car three tenths ahead of the race winning no2 Pzoberer Zürichsee by TFT Porsche 911 of Nicolas Leutwiler and Julien Andlauer.

The second and final Free Practice session of the 2020 Michelin Le Mans Cup season will take place at 16h30 GMT / 17h30 CET this afternoon.
