The second and final Free Practice session of the Portimao weekend saw the no7 Nielsen Racing Ligier post the fastest time of the day with Wayne Boyd’s lap of 1m38.802 shaving 0.168s off the best time set in FP1 this morning. The session was red flagged to clear some oil dropped on the track, which interrupted the green flag running time.
The former ELMS LMP3 champion’s time was also 0.425 ahead of the second placed car, the no66 Rinaldi Racing Ligier of Wyatt Brichacek, the American posting a best lap of 1m39.227.The no59 Team Virage and no34 Inter Europol Competition Ligiers were third and fourth fastest respectively.
The championship leading no85 R-ace GP Duqueine finished the session in 9th and their nearest rivals, the no97 COOL Racing Ligier was 12th.
The no18 High Class Racing Porsche 911 was the fastest of the 11 GT3 runners, with Sven Muller putting in a best lap of 1m42.618, over nine tenths faster than the best time set in FP1 by the no74 Kessel Racing Ferrari.
It was Fran Rueda Mateos who set the no74 Ferrari’s best time in FP2, the Spaniard lapping in 1m43.008, half a second faster than his FP1 time. The no88 AF Corse Ferrari was third fastest with Riccardo Agostini setting a 1m43.191, 0.019s ahead of his AF Corse teammate and newly crowned GT3 champion Alessandro Balzan in the no51 Ferrari 296 GT3.
Qualifying for the Portimão Round will take place tomorrow, starting at 12h30 with GT3 followed by LMP3 at 12h55.
