The 2022 Michelin Le Mans Cup season will once again feature six events, with five 2-hour and two 55-minute races, to decide who will be crowned the LMP3 and GT3 Champions.
The Italian round of the series will move back to Imola and the Hungaroring will feature on the calendar for the first time.
The season begins in Le Castellet in April, with round 2 at Imola in May.Imola hosted Round 2 in 2016 when it was just the GT3 category, so this will be the first time the LMP3 class has run at this track in a Michelin Le Mans Cup race.
The Road to Le Mans double header will move back to its traditional June date, with the second 55-minute race being the curtain raiser for the 90th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The series begins the second half of the season in Hungary in July, with the Hungaroring joining the schedule for a new challenge for the teams and drivers.
After a summer break, the Michelin Le Mans Cup travels to Spa-Francorchamps in September, with the season finale once again held at the ‘roller-coaster’ track at Portimão in October.
As in previous years, the Michelin Le Mans Cup will join the ELMS for a festival of endurance.
Pierre Fillon, President of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, said: “Since 2016 the Michelin Le Mans Cup has established itself as the first key step on the Endurance ladder. This competition allows the teams and drivers wishing to improve in the discipline to have more track time. The 2022 calendar is promising and will offer great challenges to the drivers. The Michelin Le Mans Cup always puts on a great show and this season will be no exception.”
Frédéric Lequien, Le Mans Endurance Management CEO, said: “We are extremely pleased to present the 2022 MLMC calendar which offers a great selection of circuits for the drivers, the teams and the fans. The inclusion of Imola and Hungaroring, means we have added two new premium tracks to the calendar which will give the competitors some new challenges for the season ahead.
“Since 2016 the Road to Le Mans event has provided some fantastic racing action and a perfect platform for the competitors to show off their talents on the legendary La Sarthe circuit and in 2022 this event will continue to be the jewel-in-the-crown of the Michelin Le Mans Cup calendar.”
“We look forward to seeing the teams, drivers and the fans in 2022 for another great season of endurance racing in the Michelin Le Mans Cup.”
