Malthe Jakobsen posted the fastest Michelin Le Mans Cup lap of the day at Imola and left it to the very last lap of Free Practice to do it. The Dane lapped the 4.909km circuit in the no69 Cool Racing Ligier in 1m38.358 to push the no33 Team Virage Ligier of Ian Rodriguez off the top spot by 0.113s as the chequered flag was shown.
The second 60-minute practice session was interrupted by two red flags and two FCY periods to recover cars from the gravel or to clean the track.The final red flag ended with 10 minutes left on the clock and there was a flurry of fastest times set in the final green period of the session.
Wayne Boyd, who had set the fastest lap in FP1 in the no23 United Autosports Ligier, made a bid for the top of the time sheets but after setting the fastest time he had to settle for third with a 1m38.764.Round 1 winner Tom Dillmann in the no10 Racing Spirit of Leman Ligier also briefly held the top position with a 1m38.899 lap but slipped back to 4thfastest at the end of the session.
The GT3 category was headed by the no61 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GT3 with Andrea Montermini posting a 1m43.965 lap time just before the chequered flag was shown to push fellow Italian Fabio Babini in the no46 Ebimotors Porsche 911 into second spot by 0.102s.
GMB Motorsport took the next three positions on the timing screen, with the no88 Honda NSX in third spot with Mikkel Pedersen’s 1m45.002 lap edging his teammate Kasper Jensen by two tenths of a second.
Qualifying for Round 2 of the 2022 Michelin Le Mans Cup will take place tomorrow at 12h35 (CEST).
