MissionH24 on track at Spa-Francorchamps

MissionH24 returns to Spa to participate to the Michelin Le Mans Cup practice sessions, the circuit on which it made its debut for what will be the first outing in competition of the H24 electric-hydrogen prototype, which succeeded the LMPH2G launched in 2018 at the same time as the programme initiated by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest and GreenGT.

MissionH24 and Spa-Francorchamps have always had a strong relationship. It was on this circuit in the Belgian Ardennes that the Automobile Club de l’Ouest and GreenGT launched this programme in 2018 to pave the way for the arrival of electric-hydrogen-powered prototypes in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. MissionH24’s first laboratory vehicle, the LMPH2G, also turned its first laps in public at Spa. The following year, the LMPH2G took part in its first weekend’s racing by competing in free practice for the Michelin Le Mans Cup during the ELMS meeting on this same track.

MissionH24 will be back at Spa on 17th September for a new chapter in its history. The H24, the electric-hydrogen racing prototype, which succeeded the LMPH2G, is going to take part in its first weekend’s competition again in the context of the 2021 ELMS calendar by lining up at the start of the practice sessions for the Michelin Le Mans Cup among the other cars. This will be a real mechanical and sporting test for this new prototype which has covered only a few hundred kilometres in private practice and whose first public outing came in last month’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Behind the wheel will be Stéphane Richelmi, one of the three MissionH24’s performance development drivers (with Norman Nato and Stoffel Vandoorne). His job will be to rack up the laps which will then be compared with those covered in previous outings.

He will refuel in hydrogen at the TotalEnergies mobile station on the pit lane so he will be able to fill up in the same conditions as a prototype with a conventional engine!
