The fifth race of the 2023 Michelin Le Mans Cup season saw some great racing at Motorland Aragon. With just two races remaining, the battle for the coveted Michelin Le Mans Cup titles in LMP3 and GT3 have intensified.
With two wins in Barcelona and Le Castellet, another podium finish in Aragon has extended the championship for the no16 Team Virage Ligier Nissan driven by Gillian Henrion and Julien Gerbi to 21-points, with a maximum of 52 points still to be won.The Polish flagged team has 72 points, with the no77 Team Thor Ligier of Audunn Gudmundsson and Colin Noble in second place on 51-points after the Icelandic team finished third in Spain.
Victory in Spain for the no4 Nielsen Racing Duqueine of Matt Bell and John Melsom propelled the Road to Le Mans winners up the table from 7thto 3rdspot with 45 points.The no87 COOL Racing Ligier of Adrien Chila and Cedric Oltramare finished 4thin Aragon and the Swiss team drop one place in the championship standings to 4thon 41 points.
A third-place finish at Motorland Aragon meant that Round 1 winners Valentin Hasse Clot and Arnold Robin maintained their championship lead in the no10 Racing Spirit of Leman Aston Martin Vantage.However, the French duos lead has been cut to just 6-points with 69 points compared to 63 points for Anders Fjordbach and Tim Creswick in the no86 HCR with CaffeineSix Porsche 911.
Victory in Aragon for Kei Cozzolino and Hiroshi Koizumi in the no51 AF Corse Ferrari 296 moved the Japanese pairing up to third place with 59 points, just 10 points behind the leaders, and ahead of the Le Castellet race winners Gabriel Rindone and Patrick Kujala in the no19 Leipert Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan, who head to Spa-Francorchamps on 42-points.
Round 5 of the 2023 Michelin Le Mans Cup will take place at Spa-Francorchamps on Saturday 23 September.
