The fifth round of the brand new Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup will take place here at Spa-Francorchamps with a quality grid representing five different manufacturers. With just two races of the six race series remaining, both the driver and team titles are still wide open.
The drivers and teams come from fourteen different nations from around the globe and have provided some of the best racing action seen at each of the previous four rounds held at Imola, Le Mans, Red Bull Ring and the Circuit Paul Ricard.
Leading the championship is the three time winners in the no72 SMP Racing Ferrari, Victor Shaitar and Aleksey Basov. The Russian duo stood on the top step of the podium at Le Mans, Red Bull Ring and Le Castellet and are looking to add a fourth victory in increase their 10 point lead in the driver’s championship.
The no34 TF Sport Aston Martin is the current leader in the Team’s Championship by 15 points, while the drivers Salih Yoluc and Euan Hankey are the leading crew chasing Shaitar and Basov thanks to a win at Imola and two further podium finishes in Austria and France.
Egidio Perfetti is rejoined by Klaus Bachler in the no88 Mentos Racing Porsche 911 after Bachler missed the race in Le Castellet a month ago, with the Norwegian driver currently third in the points scoring three podium finishes in the last three races.
The no55 FFF Racing Team by ACM McLaren 650S of Japan’s Hiroshi Hamaguchi and Britain’s Adrian Quife-Hobbs, along with the no51 AF Corse Ferrari of Italian Francesco Castellacci and Swiss Thomas Flohr have always been at the sharp end of the battles for the podium places at each of the previous four races and will be looking for another chance to challenge for a top three finish on the 7km circuit at Spa-Francorchamps.
