The no72 SMP Racing Ferrari of Alexsey Basov and Viktor Shaitar finished the opening day of the race weekend in Austria as the fastest car in the Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup. Basov posted a 1m29.511 lap, eight tenths quicker than the time posted in the earlier Free Practice 1.
The Ferrari was just 0.104 seconds ahead of the no55 FFF Racing Team by ACM McLaren of Hiroshi Hamaguchi and just 0.190 seconds in front of the no88 Mentos Racing Porsche of Klaus Bachler. In fact the top eight cars were covered by less than 0.6 seconds and the entire grid by 1.4 seconds.
The no71 AF Corse Ferrari 458 of Filipe Barreiros and Mads Rasmussen didn’t take part in the second Free Practice session due to the damage the car suffered in the accident during Free Practice 1.
The scene is now set for the qualifying for Round 3 of the Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup which is due to start at 11h10 tomorrow, followed by the 2-hour race at 17h00.
